August 17, 2026 to August 21, 2026
The Island Lake First Nations Family Services have selected university students from the University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg to participate in this initiative. From January to July 2026, the group has been meeting on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month in preparation for a community visit planned for August 16-21, 2026. This year, our team is planning to stay in Wasagamack.
During this visit, the students will support the delivery of programs, workshops, and community events in collaboration with community members and staff. Programming will be guided by input from community Elders, leadership, families, and ILFNFS staff to ensure it is meaningful, relevant, and culturally grounded. Planned activities may include parents' well-being workshop, nutrition and cooking class for families, children's well-being workshop, youth life skills workshop, physical Literacy movement, and a community-wide event Family fun day and "Anisininew Got Talent."
The project team work closely with Wasagamack Wellness & Prevention, Youth Health and Wellbeing Programs, ILFNFS, and Indigenous Skills, Employment and Training Program to ensure that all workshops and event is well-supported and aligned with community priorities.
