Neechi Camp

Dates: July 2 - July 6, 2026

Who can Join: Any urban Island Lake CICs ages 12 - 17 years of old

Meeting Placement: Fisher River Untied Church

Deadline by June 15, 2026

Neechi Camp will take place for the second year in a row in Ochekwi Sipi Cree Nation, also named Fisher River, MB.

We will set up camp on the beautiful grassy area beside Fisher River United Church.

We will use the church as our home base and other spaces in the community such as the brand-new Red Turtle Lodge, the river, the land, and the lake as additional places of learning.

Neechi Camp will give Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth the opportunity to connect and build friendships while experiencing and learning about Indigenous culture through activities and ceremony led by elders and other community members.

Youth will have the opportunity to:

  • go out in a boat to do net fishing
  • clean, prepare, and fry the fresh fish
  • make a rattle to use in ceremony
  • watch and learn from traditional dancers (hoop dancing and pow wow dancing)
  • learn ceremonial drum songs
  • take part in a sweat lodge ceremony
  • cook some of our meals, play games, enjoy a campfire
  • learn stories and a little bit of the Cree language from Elders as we gather in daily sharing circles.

All youth will sleep in the tent village that is provided by the Neechi camp, but youth participants must bring their own sleeping bag, pillow, and an extra blanket if they require one.

The caregiver or respite worker must provide transportation for drop off in July 2/26 evening and pick up in July 6/26 evening.

There are only four spots available. Please contact SI-IL as early as possible to register for the camp.

This will be a part of summer camp, so the agency will include the camp fee in the summer camp fund.
